Alice lives an ordinary life, until the day she follows the White Rabbit down, down, down a rabbit hole. She suddenly finds herself in an enchanted world, surrounded by zany creatures like the Mad Hatter, the Duchess, and the Cheshire Cat. Alice is delighted to find that nothing in Wonderland is the least bit ordinary.
'Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?'
'That depends a good deal on where you want to get to,' said the Cat.
'I don't much care where-' said Mice.
'Then it doesn't matter which way you go,' said the Cat.

- CHAPTER VI. PIG AND PEPPER
One lazy, hot afternoon, Alice grows bored sitting by the riverbank and follows
a mysterious white rabbit. Following it down a rabbit hole, Alice tumbles into a
magical nonsense world where meeting a Mad Hatter and a disappearing Cheshire
Cat are just part of the adventure. In a strange land of talking doorknobs and
magical potions, Alice wonders if she will ever find her way home.
The second of Alice's adventures sees her walking through a mirror to a strange
world on the other side. Upon her arrival, she is met by talking chess pieces and
bumps into nursery rhyme characters Tweedledum and Tweedledee. After being
taken on a whirlwind journey through time and space, Alice wakes from a dream
where she has become Queen of the chessboard. Only then does she think that
perhaps it was all imagined...
Lewis Carroll's real name was Charles Lutwidge Dodgson. He was born on 27th January 1832 at Daresbury in Cheshire. He wrote Alice's Adventures in Wonderland (1865) and Through the Looking Glass (1872) for the daughters of the Dean of Christ Church. His other works include Phantasmagoria and Other Poems (1869), The Hunting of the Snark (1876), Rhyme? And Reason? (1882), The Game of Logic (1887) and Sylvie and Bruno (1889, 1893).
